A good number of volunteers came to help out on the Cody stand at the RYA Dinghy and Watersports Show with Rob Baldock masterminding the organisation and also setting up the stand – a huge thank you to Rob and all who were able to ‘man’ the stand.

On Saturday morning we had a few visitors, numbers picking up as the day went on, with several people leaving their contact details and wanting to know more about membership. Simon Conway’s summer camp montage video was good to have running.
Meanwhile Simon Conway was exhibiting his GP14 and alongside Steve was helping to launch the RYA Dinghy Trails site. They hosted another stand with Skismo, which also pointed people to Cody and dinghy cruising.
In the afternoon Simon, Steve and Roger Barnes (of “Dinghy Cruising Companion” fame) took to the main stage for their presentation – “Small boats, big adventures”. Simon shared his experience of cruising on the Caledonian Canal through lochs and locks (!) and Roger shared a lifetime of dinghy cruising experiences from young lad to present day.

Steve finished off the session talking about the launch of RYA Dinghy Trails – a new digital resource, intended to be a community knowledge sharing platform of dinghy trails around the UK. The site hosts editable trails info which includes GPS mapping data of places of interest and of hazards. The volunteer team are looking for contributions – people are invited to share their dinghy trail information and engage with the site. Take a look at www.dinghytrails.uk and you’ll also find the short video Cody helped to put together for the dinghy trails site, in Poole & Studland Bay and on Summer Camp 2025:
Those members who weren’t helping on the stands (or presenting on the main stage) enjoyed taking in the rest of the show, admiring the boats, connecting with people and trying their luck with some of the competitions. A good day out and hopefully we might see some new faces at Cody in the coming months as a result.
