It was densely foggy at 7am which quickly burned away to leave a sparkling sunny day with bubbly cumulus clouds and a solid F3 from the south east.
Having sailed past Cotehele yesterday we resolved to stop there today and launched at 12:15 onto a flooding tide in bright sunshine.
The “corner of doom” again offered shifty winds and the rest of the sail was a mixture of shifty and solid wind.
Four boats took to the water; Simon in his GP14, Ged and Stephen in Peewit, Rob and Alan in Rob’s Trio and Mel and Steve in their Trio.
We had about 2 hours at Cotehele to enjoy some lunch. Simon cooked aboard his GP14, some lunched on packed food and some enjoyed the delights of the café. Then we might have had a little sleep.
The return was slightly exciting in that Rob and Alan partially capsized and shipped a lot of water, which slowed their sailing down. “Up to the seats” is quite a lot of river to host in your Trio. Frustratingly they did this just round a river corner so we have no video of it, just a boat needing to drain before pulling up the slipway. Back about 18:15.
It was a hugely entertaining and enjoyable sail in great company.
