After the Sail: Debrief & Reporting

  1. Reflection: Create a space for a debrief (what was difficult, what went well, what could be done differently next time).
  2. Reporting: Agree on who will write the Newsletter report.
  3. Club Boats:Remind users to report all club boat usage and any breakages using the online forms.
  4. Major Incidents: Manage the necessary implications of any significant incident.

Post event 

Daysail report. As Daysail Leader please complete the dinghy cruising sheet with a record of the event. This should include: launch time, intended destination, rendezvous points, actual destination, any capsizes, any other incidents, time boats recovered from water. This needs to be forwarded to the Rear Commodore without fail as the club’s record of the event. The club needs to keep these records to ensure it is covered in the event of any connected incident.

Newsletter report. Please also ensure that somebody is appointed to write up the event for the newsletter, which should be submitted to the Club’s Newsletter Editor within the following week. It’s important to feedback as much as possible to the newsletter so all Club members know what’s going on.

Problems. Any damage to the boats (whether or not occurring during the cruise) or suggestions for improvements must be reported to the Bosun or the Rear Commodore using the online forms.

Reporting significant accidents and incidents

As a sailing club affiliated to the RYA, we have additional help and support if there is a significant incident. Ensure that you are familiar with the support that is offered.

Return. Ensure boats/trailers/engines etc are returned to Frensham pond / Farnborough shed as appropriate in time for their next scheduled use. Boats should be washed, including sails, and those returned to the pond must be rigged, covered and all items secured (buoyancy aids, engines etc). Outboards that have been used in seawater should be run in fresh water and the fuel switched off to empty the carbs of fuel before storage.
