Cody Daysail Leader Syllabus
The requirements to become a Cody daysail leader:
- At least one higher RYA qualification such as Seamanship Skills (or deemed to have equivalent experience)
- Participation in Day Sails in the Solent/Chichester Harbour/Portsmouth Harbour so have some knowledge of local waters
- Have the recommendation of an existing Daysail Leader.
- Have a discussion on what is involved in the development of a Daysail Leader and have a willingness to take it on
- Undertake a training session on;
- The Cody Sailing Club Safety Management Policy
- charts and interpretation of hazards (overfalls, shipping lanes and therefore buoyage),
- tides and tidal gates
- weather and its effects on your planned passage (wind over tide in particular)
- planning and
- briefing
- Undertake at least 2 different cruises and one beach day as a trainee supported by an experienced Daysail Leader putting the training into practice (the reason for this was a beach day can be more challenging than a cruise with different constraints needed such as sailing area, what to do if someone is in difficulty than a cruise where there are formal guidelines for Daysail Leaders)
- Be assigned a mentor so that as an inexperienced Daysail Leader you had someone to ask questions of.
