Most members will be aware that one of our most popular members, Adri, recently completed two legs of the Round the World Clipper Race from Seattle, Panama and Washington before landing at Portsmouth at the end of July. Several club members went along to welcome her arrival and Clipper Homecoming at a very crowded Gunwharf Quays where all the competing boats were to finish.
The homecoming event began with a procession of all the Clipper boats entering the harbour and berthing in turn where crew members were greeted by family members and also numerous press interviewers! Crews from each boat then paraded in turn through the Quays to a purpose-built stage where each crew was presented accompanied by much cheering and waving – it was not difficult to spot Adri as she was carrying the boat’s enormous flag! A little while later Adri was able to ‘escape’ and find us in the crowd together with her husband and many friends. A lovely homecoming!
