Poole Day 3 Monday

We anticipated a window of sensible wind on Monday morning and left for Rockley via Arne at about 08:40 in a F4-5 with reefed Trios and fully powered L2K in mostly full sun.

Roy and Jenny powered ahead and alerted us to the shallows at the entrance to the channel between Round Island and the mainland. Mel, Steve and Camilla, Simon, Matt and Harry, and Alan and David in reefed Trios followed and we did stop to observe the seal at a safe distance.

Onward to lee-shore Rockley for a brief cuppa. The sail back was a broad reach to reach, mostly planing in the turbulent F4 to 5 and we returned at 11:20, as the tide was at its lowest before the second high. The scant depth made for an interesting beat with no rudder or tiller in gusty winds.
9.5 mile cruise

The rest of the day was taken up loafing about having a lovely camping holiday in increasing winds. Simon and Alan packed up, they are planning to return at the weekend. Stephen arrived and has set up camp.
