On the 8th May, two Trio’s launched at 09h30 from Lee-on-the-Solent, with the tide out, moderate easterly winds and a glorious sunny day. Mel, Steve, James, Simon and Martin made their way out across the Solent to Bembridge Harbour, with only the occasional passing ferry of concern.
Shortly before reaching Bembridge, the winds switched to the south east, requiring some tacking to and fro to make it down the narrow harbour channel, eventually landing at 13h30 on the friendly sand beach below the Harbour View Cafe.
Fortified with an excellent lunch from the Cafe, we made our way back across the Solent at 14h30, both trio’s flying spinnakers, aided by the tide. A number of sizable passing
container vessels inspired caution when crossing the shipping channel, and the wind picked up slightly aiding our return, landing at Elsmore Car Park near high tide, 16h30.
