Cody Sailing Club at Frensham Pond Sailing Club

Our club boats are kept at Frensham Pond Sailing Club. As a member of Cody Sailing Club you are an associate member of FPSC and are entitled to use the Cody Sailing Club boats to sail on the pond. You may also join in FPSC activities such as race events etc, and FPSC have an exciting and busy race programme.

Membership of Cody Sailing Club does not entitle you to a berth at Frensham Pond Sailing Club, nor to put your boat on Frensham Pond. Several members of Cody SC are also members of FPSC, and keep their boats in the boat park. In order to keep a boat of your own at Frensham or sail a boat of your own (excluding Open Meetings), you need separate membership with them.

Often at the end of an RYA Level 2 training course there’s a question of ‘what next?’ There are questions around what boat to buy, where to sail, how to take sailing to the next level (be it racing, cruising, seamanship). It’s often good to not make a hasty purchase, and this is where our presence at FPSC is to your advantage.

Frensham Pond is an ideal location to take your sailing skills from the end of an RYA Level 2 course, and practice in the safe waters of the pond. It will also allow you to mix with tremendously knowledgable members, and ask questions before choosing a vessel for yourself to purchase, and see what the benefits of a Sailing Club can bring you.

The membership of Cody Sailing Club (you need ‘Dinghy Section Membership’) is very reasonable, and it gets you shared use of any of the club boats at Frensham Pond, associate membership of the club and access to a wide variety of dinghy sailing experts. The shared use is an important element to understand – if there is a call on the dinghies for an away-from-pond event, the away-from event will get priority, and yet most of the time not all dinghies are required for an away event.

Having joined as a Dinghy Section member you will need the current combination number to get into the FPSC compound, please contact the Cody Club Rear Commodore for details.

Blue Green Algae

Sailors should be aware that Blue Green algae may on occasions be present in Frensham Pond during the summer months, and in that event appropriate safety measures will need to be taken. Respect the recommendations – the health implications following exposure can be horrible.

Cody ‘Cycle Club’ February ride

It poured, it rained, it deluged, it dripped, it flooded. The rain in January and February 2026 was relentless. Simon and Stephen were chatting and they agreed that a Cody cycle ride was required to raise morale. A date was put in the diary and then every day it rained and deluged. It was hopeless. But then something strange happened. The chosen Saturday for the ride was a dry, bright and sunny day, all day!

We rode in brilliant sun with a cold northerly wind making us aware that it was still winter. The route was one of our favourites, from West Dean to West Wittering beach. This is a mainly off-road route that is purpose made for walkers and cyclists. The views from the path were so beautiful and we all glad to be alive and to be out in the fresh air.

Cyclists pretending their bikes are a boat.

At the beach it was quite busy. We guessed that lots of people had seized the chance to get out after all the rain. We had lunch and then a gentle potter on the beach before heading home.

Stephen, Simon, Andy and Vanessa were from Cody on the ride and we were joined by three cycling friends.

The photograph shows the cycle path with one of the great big puddles on it. In truth, much of it was dry, but this seemed like too good a photo opportunity to miss!

All in all, this was a wonderfully enjoyable day out in the depths of a very wet winter. Seize the day!
