Wow! What an excellent tour of Poole Harbour today.
Our first plan was to sail to Wareham but Bill reported that the moored yachts just short of Wareham have narrowed the channel and only a guaranteed reach or a motor would get past them now.
Plan changed to a sail up to the entrance of Wareham Channel, then Rockley for lunch and Shell Bay for an ice cream.
2k-Roy, Jenny, Club Trio-James, Sandy, David, Trio- Mel, Steve, Mike, Pacer-Bill. We launched at 09:30 into a F5 with occasional lulls to F4 and beat to the entrance of the Wareham River, turning the Port hand post.
The beat was a challenge and both Trios were reefed, while Roy and Jenny flew full sail, and on the broad reach back to Rockley flew a couple of times with the spinnaker. Meanwhile, Bill chased us in his full sail, no jib Pacer.
We stopped at Rockley for first lunch and it was full on holiday mode with windsurfing and sailing lessons and the beach full of holidaymakers. Having First Lunched we then sailed on a broad reach to run to Shell Bay for second lunch before beating directly home. The sailing was varied and fun, with the extra challenge of arriving within 15 minutes either side of the 15:00 second high tide.
