Tamar Camp day 8

How it came to pass we do not know, that on the day of the maximum train strike disruption the only GWR service running in the country was the Tamar Line.
Furthermore the Denham Bridge is under repair following recent damage, making Plymouth an hour’s drive away.
The wind was forecast flat calm so we decided the night before to abandon the sailing and have a Holiday In Devon. We took the train from Bere Ferrers to Plymouth, a bus to the town centre and a boat trip for an hour from the Barbican to the end of the Devonport Docks in bright sunlight. Then we enjoyed a long lunch, a walk on the Hoe and then set off too early for the bus to the station and then the train back.
The evening was beautiful, a gentle southerly in full sun tempted Simon in his GP and Steve in the Trio to sail with the flood as far as possible upriver. The wind was a northerly on the other side of the hairpin bend so the sail was interesting.
We sat outside, had dinner, watched the sun set and chatted until it was very dark.
It was a full and excellent day.
