I was having a lovely conversation during the Comet Trio Nationals last year with Nick, the Cruising Captain of Exe SC. He has just forwarded me their cruising calendar, and invited us to join them for a daysail.
Exe Sailing Club are in a beautiful location at the mouth of the Exe river in Exmouth, and without traffic it’s about three and a half hours from the Hampshire area.
They run dinghy cruises from the sailing club to local destinations which they pick depending on weather conditions.
He writes “Following our discussions at the Trio Nationals last year, I have pleasure in forwarding you attached this year’s programme and would be delighted if you would like to join us on any of the outings. The sea outings could be either to Teignmouth or Budleigh Salterton / Sidmouth depending on wind direction (with the exception of the Torquay endurance trip on August bank holiday Sunday).
Of course, you may wish to take advantage of the river trips as indicated in the programme, going up to Topsham / The Turf Pub before high tide and returning with the tide. It can make for an interesting 3 to 4 hour trip.
We now have a fleet of up to three Hawks, providing the necessary mother boat cover.”
